Staff presentation providing an overview of the rationale for a 1 to 1 laptop program at Parkwood Secondary College

RATIONALE:

Parkwood Secondary College is excited to announce the introduction of a 1:1 Laptop Program in Year 7 for the 2011 school year.

The overriding factor in the decision to pursue a 1:1 Laptop Program in Junior School is the opportunity presented to improve student engagement and student learning outcomes.

However, this will not happen simply by giving students laptop computers.

The program will be supported with excellent teaching; the school is committed to utilising ICT to enhance student learning and engagement and this program is seen as the next logical step in that process. Teachers will be supported to expand their program delivery via professional development and increasing the variety of learning tools and techniques used. Learning, both in and out of classroom will be supported through the program, providing students with the opportunity to improve their learning outcomes with a more personalized and differentiated learning experience.

The introduction of a 1:1 Laptop Program at Parkwood has been designed to coincide with the state wide implementation of the Ultranet which will be fully operational for 2011.
